Permanent Account Number or PAN is a unique identification number issued under the income-tax law. It is used for income-tax compliance and for specified financial transactions where quoting PAN is required.
Under Section 262 of the Income-tax Act, 2025, a person who has not been allotted PAN is required to apply for its allotment where the prescribed conditions are satisfied. The provision also allows a person who is not mandatorily required to obtain PAN to apply voluntarily.
